Find Inner
Stillness with Yoga
One of the most important aspects of a balanced life
is finding time for yourself - in silence.
In yoga, there is a sacred practice called mouna, meaning
vow of silence. The purpose of mouna is to remind us
to take time to stop busying ourselves and turn off
the external anxiety producing stimulus, and to simply
Be!
Although it may be a challenge to commit a time for
silence, experiencing the benefits of focus and growth
will be your encouragement and support for continued
success. When we bring a halt to stimulus entering into
our minds, we automatically begin to reflect inward.
This inward reflection allows us the space to be present.
A sense of presence promotes greater self-awareness,
clarity, and peace of mind.
Beginning your Practice of Silence:
Dedicate a day and time each week for an hour of silence
(mouna). During this time be sure your loved ones understand
your need and the benefits of your commitment.
Once you have established a time and place turn off
any and all external stimulus, including, music and
television. Allow yourself to be fully present and aware
of this moment.
You may also choose to do some simple breathing technique
or work on a creative project, such as writing or drawing.
Whatever you do during your time of silence, be sure
it is about and for you. Through the practice mouna
you will develop greater focus, clarity, and an ability
to connect more deeply with others.
"Silence is more musical
than a song." -- Christina Rossetti
May silence bring you greater joy so that you may bring
greater joy to others.
Om Shanti. . .
