Step 1 to Developing Your Psychic Side: Recognize You Have One

In our current culture we tend to think of psychid awareness as being extraordinary. Psychic is defined in the dictionary as "abilities, faculties or phenomena that are apparently inexplicable by natural laws, especially involving telepathy or clairvoyance." In the thesaururs under "psychic," similar words are: supernatural, paranormal, supernormal, preternatural, metaphysical, extrasensory, magic, marical, mystical, mystic, occult. This would lead one to believe that being psychic is extraordinary, and it supports the image of the gypsy fortune teller or celebrity psychic as being the bearer of these magical gifts. This belief contributes to our stereotyped definition of who has psychic ability and who does not.

You Already Have Psychic Abilities

In daily life we often use psychic abilities but don't recognize them as such. We are each equipped with the innate capacity to use any number of psychic abilities on a daily basis. Many of us have had the experience of thinking of someone, and they call. This is called telepathy - the sending or receiving of thought messages without speaking. Often we have a distinct feeling abut something or someone before an event takes place. We call this intuition. In children as well as adults a common psychic ability is called empathy or being empathetic. This is a person who is aware of other's feelings and mental state of being. This often begins as a young child with an actute awareness of their parent's feelings or mental disposition.

In addition to the more common psychic abilities there are the less frequently used abilities of clear seeiing (clairvoyance) and clear hearing (clairaudience). These abilities often open naturally in deep meditation, prayer, shamanic journeying and other spiritual practices, allowing the recipient an extraordinary view of life. The same opening can occur using a series of psychic exercises, many of which were developed at the Berkeley Psychic Institute in the 1970s.

I'm often asked what kind of people are attracted to psychic training. I've trained people from age 17-65: professionals, artists, healers and moms. The common quality is that they have a curiosity about their psychic ability and innate knowing. They seek more awareness and insight into themselves and others.

How to Develop Your Psychic Abilities Further

If you're curious about increasing your psychic abilities and intuition, I encourage you to find a qualified teacher or guide. It's recommended to open up these capacities in a safe container or environment. the Berkeley Psychis Institute is a rich resource with multiple locations in California. Most major cities now have a Psychic Center or Intuitive Healing Center. Investigate until you find a teacher and method that you feel comofrtable with. the journey to developing your psychic capacity can be a fascinating journey of self-healing, discovery, and yes, a bit of magic too!
