What is the
Human Design System?
With all of our technological advances and new gadgets
to delight the mind, there is still the mystery of what
it is to be human. Wouldn't it be great to have an owner's
manual supplied with each of us, just like those we
receive when we purchase a cell phone or new computer?
A guide or resource to turn to when there is an emotional
short-circuit, a recycling relationship pattern (gosh,
this feels familiar), a deep sense of being off track
but knowing there must be an easier path to follow?
Life flows when we are aligned within ourselves --
that effortless feeling of being in the right place
at the right time. An owner's manual should help us
troubleshoot when this is not our experience. Luckily
for us, that owner's manual actually does exist!
This owner's manual comes in the form of the Human
Design System -- a combination of Astrology,
the I'Ching, and
our chakras. Human
Design synthesizes these ancient wisdom systems into
a modern wisdom designed for the 21st century. This
synthesis is graphically depicted in the "body
graph" showing nine "centers" interconnected
by "channels". The centers show areas of life
common to all humans: the mind, body sense, emotional
responses, identity, sexuality/life-force, inspiration,
ego, security, and communication. Depending on the conditions
in the solar system, that is, the planetary placements,
these areas of life can be stable, consistent, and grounded
(called "defined"), or conversely show areas
where we can get lost, and are vulnerable (or "undefined").

For example, in Human Design the emotional field
is located in the center called the Solar Plexus.
When defined, this indicates a strongly emotional person
who can trust their emotional responses as being their
own, who sets the emotional tone of their environment
(either positively or negatively), is potentially emotionally
resilient, sensitive, and compassionate, and is capable
of deep emotional understanding (developed over time).
When undefined this indicates someone who is
often less emotionally resilient, who is easily shaken
by the feeling responses of others, and who feels guilty
and responsible for those emotional responses. Someone
who often takes things personally and has difficulty
discerning what is their feeling and what is someone
else's, thus is often destabilized and emotionally reactive.
Knowing whether you are defined or undefined emotionally
can totally change how you experience yourself in the
world and in your relationships. Learning to recognize
how you impact others and take responsibility for that,
goes a long way in creating healthy relationships. Recognizing
when you are adversely impacted and developing skills
to stay open rather than unconsciously constricted,
and allows you to be clearer and not so emotionally
reactive.
Human Design helps you know and accept yourself at
a deep level. Often you do know yourself, but don't
trust that knowing, or judge it. The system can help
you become more compassionate towards others and considerate
of how you move through the world. You become more conscious
of your blind spots, understand where you can easily
go off track, and more importantly, recognize when it
is happening and get back on track sooner with fewer
emotional casualties! This allows for healthier relationships
all around.
Not only is Human Design valuable for seeing yourself
and understanding important relationships, it can be
a useful tool for Life Coaches and therapists.
