800 Muses Publishing House

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Submission to 800 Muses starts with a conversation. Tell us what you plan to write (or have written) and your vision for it. We'll do some serious market research. If a joint venture looks promising, we'll meet and go over the timeline for preparation, production, publishing, and promotion.

If we don't think we'll be able to market your work for you, we'll let you know as soon as possible, and will do our best to point you in a new direction.

Royalties

We offer twice the royalties offered by traditional publishers. We can do this because we will only launch a book when we're certain there's a market, because we partner with our authors in the promotion phase. You pay most upfront costs:*

  • Cover artist (~$300) - we use 99Designs

  • Editor (~$300) - from Upwork, Fiverr, etc.

  • Formatter (~$300) - from Upwork

  • Narrator (~$300-$1,000) - if an audiobook is desired (recommended) - from ACX, the Audible side of Amazon

We share ongoing advertising costs for your work. Your half comes out of your royalties, which are paid monthly. We also cover research and certain administrative expenses that would be difficult to allocate fairly (e.g., applications to extract email lists from Amazon, tools to cull "dead" emails, subscriptions to promotional sites and stock photography, fees for keyword search tools, plugins for Amazon, and hosting of this website, among others).

*On rare occasions (e.g., when we solicit you or when you have a robust mailing list) we may cover the upfront costs initially, reducing your royalties to 25% until those costs are repaid. From that 25% would also come your portion of advertising fees.
